CHIKANKARI GULAAB DUPATTA du · pat · ta · (noun) a long, multipurpose scarf or shawl traditionally worn by women across South Asia. Draped, folded, tied, handed down, always there. Long before the Scandinavian scarf became a mood board staple, South Asian women were living in this piece. This is our version. Made in Lucknow. Worn however you want. The Gulaab reimagines the dupatta as a two-piece set, a scarf top and a mini skirt, cut from pure silk georgette in Cloud Dancer white. Each piece is hand embroidered by a woman in a small village outside Lucknow, close to 90 hours across her lap before it becomes this top. The dori can be styled more than 20 ways, so the top moves with you instead of asking you to move around it. The hero motif is the gulab, the rose, one of the most demanded and difficult motifs in chikankari. Each rose is its own small act of patience.
